Is this true?

Author: Sandy

Does Billie Joe Armstrong (of Green Day) have an anxiety disorder? I heard he had panic attacks more on stage when he was younger like in the 90's. I've seen performaces and he did twitch his head a lot, does the excitement of the concert tend to make his anxiety disorder worst, and he gets excited and panics? I've haven't seen him do it in recent concerts (Bullet In A Bible, live in the Super Dome-I was there) or was it just his singing style when he was into the music? I know the disorder lead him to write Basket Case, but is that what the twitching was back then? Did he not take meds and he does now? This question has been bugging me so I thought, hell might as well ask on Yahoo! Anwsers.
But Billie has been doing this forever, 16 years! He might of been twitchin cuz I popped out of no where and I think I scare the sh!t out of Tre and Billie. It's a long story, but I met them got hugs & an autograph. Yes I scared my favoritie singer/guitarist/frontman, oops. But he was nice, but looked SOOO oldm but he's porbably gunna be like macjagger or whatever and wear shiney close and keep then and when he's 60 he's gunna think he's 34, oh well. But he was awesome when I met him, The story is I got on the field when U2 and Green Day performaned and Iingered behind when they were done, and they got off the little stage and I popped like right infront of he and tre' it was funny, I startled him. He said something like "don't do that again or you'll send me to the hospital."
Hell ya krissy.

yes acually he "left" the band for 6 months becase he had to get tests and keep it under control

I always get panic attacks during the Christmas Concert at my high school. last year i saw stars/hot flashes and tripped offstage. it was so embarrassing! i’m in show choir so i shouldn’t get these problems, right? i can’t get so paniced. i know i’m going to start feeling faint, even when i am relaxed, breathing, and my knees are “unlocked”. HELP?? also, a lot of the time i’m not singing, i’m standing there on stage while other choirs sing. total time: 1 hour, 30 minutes.

Negative emotions (like sadness, stress, anger, etc.) causes your Serotonin production to be low; when your Serotonin level is low, you are more prone to getting Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Depression, etc.

Medication like Antidepressants (SSRI - Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) helps to boost Serotonin level.
But there are natural ways to do it without medication. There's this herb called "St John's Wort" - it is said to be more effective than Prozac. No, it is not for mild depression only and ignore those sayings. In fact, it does help anxiety and panic-attacks as St John's Wort works like prozac. Other natural ways will be exercise, diet, more exposure to light, etc.
If you're unable to take St John's Wort, you can substitute it with Siberian Ginseng or Licorice Herb.

The problem is that, even if your Serotonin is balanced… you have that "learned behavior" in your mind. You need to break that initial cycle to destroy that learned behavior - Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) does this. A technique that you can use without CBT will be Distraction… There are several other techniques to help cope them!
Ok, to use Distraction: Firstly, try to….

Didn't she look like she was going to vomit or pass out on stage though? I felt scared for her well being during her entire acceptance speech! Good for her though, I like her as an actress even though I've never seen her new television show. but what was up with that weird sh*t she was pulling on stage like a panic attack or something mother effin weird… Poor doll. Good thing the media didn't even say a single word about it afterwards. The only thing that I could find about it was a statement by Julia saying that she boiled a bunch of hard boiled eggs after the show and being interviewed because she hadn't eaten all day. (Nice excuse!) I wonder what was really going on with her because the nominees for the Emmies already know who wins in advance to make the show a lot smoother and such….
She looked good despite her mental state though, wait I forgot- the dress was funny looking, it made her breasts look like joke peanuts being held by a black rubber sequined strap. Thoughts people
Poor girl. She had plenty of time to write/rehearse her acceptance speech and she managed to be the most bumbling actor during the emmies… I swear she wanted to vomit and then pass out and smash her little head on the stage! I loved her as Elaine- I wonder if it was the "Seinfeld Curse" that had her so extremely panic attackish or what… I'm going to check out her new show now because I feel so bad for her. Did you know that although the Emmies are live that the winners know far in advance? That is why the winners are all seated on the inside of the isle/walkway so that they won't have to take the extra time weaving between the other people in the audience. (I think that is also why Larry David wasn't there because he didn't win any awards and wasn't presenting anything. WATCH Curb Your Enthusiasm!!! Great show people!!! Rent or buy the Dvds and you will be doing yourself a favor I promise. I would like to know when the next season is due because I am waiting with bated breath!!
Larry David should have won an award… I understand that The Office can be extremely funny at times (as well as Arrested Development) but come on! CYE is wonderfully hilarious in ways that I can't even explain.

I didn't understand her speech at all. Did she even know what she was saying?

is there good acting school in Orlando, Florida? I know what book to read now, from another questions, i am stage fright and have panic attacks, thoes are my challeneges to face to do acting.

Florida state is renowned as having a good acting school and I have had many friends that have went there and enjoyed themselves. I am a theater major currently and if you want some stage fright advice just do not think of yourself as "performing" or "acting" for people. Just think about telling the characters story. If you know the story the acting will come, because you will be humbled and focused on the text, besides yourself.

My brother in law is at a very bad stage of cancer, he has the strongest will of anyone I know. He has been taking medications for pain that are giving him alarming side effects. He can't distinguish between the cancer and the pain medication side effects (vicadin). He has never had panic attacks before, but now he is, along with a whole string of other bizarre side effects. My heart is breaking for him. Can anyone suggest some natural pain relief.

Thank you.

Cathy

Panic attacks are not a side effect of vicodin but are a side effect of late stage cancer and trying to come to grips with one's own mortality. His Dr should be able to give him some ativan or valium that would put him at ease. This is standard therapy for advanced cancer and these panic attacks are not something that an individual should try to tough out through strong will. Neither is it wise to try and deal with cancer pain without taking pain meds. There is no natural product that will help in this situation and it would be cruel to make someone with late stage cancer suffer unnecessarily. Maybe a different pain med might be helpful to him but there is nothing other than maybe religion or family that will produce calm when dealing with late stage cancer. There is no reason your BIL should be having pain or panic attacks so it is imperative that he talk to his oncologist about this and also his minister, priest, rabbi, etc. if religious.

If there is no chance of cure then he needs to plan for hospice care. Hospice specializes in dealing with end of life issues and helping make this pain and anxiety free. If your BIL has 6 months or less to live he needs to contact them. good luck.

Doesn't that seem kind of contradictory?

"You'll do great Ted, now get out there and break a leg."

"What? Why would I do that?! Is the stage dangerous? I shouldn't do this, I don;t have insurance…"

It seems to me that saying 'break a leg could give someone a full fledged panic attack.

http://www.idiomsite.com/breakaleg.htm

"A leg" is one of several layers of hanging curtains to the side of and in front of a stage.
The expression originated by wishing someone luck enough to be able to get past the first layer of curtains just outside the dressing rooms that led to the stage area and actually being able to make it to the stage to perform at all in the old vaudeville days.

"Break a Leg" became a wish for good luck.

Something you can’t control, like a Tourette’s tic, or a panic attack?

That happened to me during my Sr. yr. in high school back in 2001. & I don’t even have any good senior memories to look back at. My former foster mom punished me WAAAY that previous November of 2000 because of an uncontrollable Tourette’s outburst that my evil twin sister provoked.

I graduated from high school with HONORS, & the foster mom made a threat to punish me from walking across the stage to get my diploma. She was abusive & hateful for NO reason.

WOW.
did you eventually talk to the people that let her be foster mom?
i would now if you have not.
would you like another person feeling that way?

that sucks. i would be pissed and would have already hit her.
haha

i have been in numerous public speaking classes, and every time i always get light headed on the stage. PLEASE HELP…

maybe you should go talk to a counselor or something. They will be able to help you more then anyone on this site. And besides, taking illegal drugs can be very dangerous for anyone, especially if you do not know what your doing.

I have bad panic attacks at times…when it comes to public speaking. Im only 18 but i usually take about 2 shots of alcohol before i give a presenation…and trust me it does help me a lot…it calms my nerves and i do very well. One time i tried to give a presentation without it and i paniced!! I couldnt breathe and i was shaking and sweaty. I told the teacher i didnt have my report and i got a really bad grade. Breathing techniques never work for me. I dont tell anyone because i will feel embarrassed if i do. I dont want alcohol to be the cure for my stage frights. Is there anything else i can do??

I used to have panic attacks when I had to perform for marching band. Just slow your mind down. When you stand at the front, force yourself to look at the audience. Why should they scare you? Any other time they’re your classmates. They won’t do anything except snicker and that will be over in a moment. If you can slow your mind down, reassure yourself in your head. You needn’t be perfect in order to get a good grade. Before performances, I did muscle relaxation where I go through my body, take deep breaths and clench each muscle for a few seconds then slowly relax it. Start at your feet and move up. If you’re really struggling don’t just make up an excuse, tell your teacher what’s going on. Most times they’ll get it and give you some alternative. Perhaps they’ll respect you more for letting them know you’re having some serious issues. Good luck!
