I have used this birth control for almost 2 years and for the last 8 months or so have been experiencing increased anxiety and panic attacks in the night. I am wondering if anyone else has any expertise or experience on this issue as possibly being related. Thank you. (The first year + had some anxiety, but I was also in a high stress position… can't identify positive correlation)

The official side effect listing does include "emotional lability" (a.k.a. emotional instability; why don't they just say instability? argh!). I don't know if you'd count your anxiety attacks under that heading. However, the website below has self-reported side effects from Nuvaring users and one of them does mention anxiety.

I’m thirteen years old, and I’ve suffered from anxiety attacks for about two years now. I have taken Magnesium before, but it doesn’t seem to help. I’ve been told practicing vegetarianism would help as well as exercising and meditating.
Generally it's triggered by school, or people. I believe I have social anxiety. I get nervous talking in front of the class.

Exercising and meditation are really great ideas. You really need a hobby though, something to keep you busy that you enjoy.

I've really been suffering bad recently and my doctor has not been of any help It's really getting me down is there any advice kind words you can give? I don't want to burden my wife with any things hence me writing up this question in the hope that you can help me.

Thank you.

Learning how to relax may help you head off a panic attack. You can learn to relax through a variety of techniques, such as meditation, muscle relaxation, relaxed breathing and guided imagery (visualization).

Relaxation is more than getting away from the work-a-day grind, and it's more than the absence of stress. It's a specific, intentional action that's positive and satisfying — a feeling in which you experience peace of mind. True relaxation requires becoming sensitive to your basic needs for peace, self-awareness and thoughtful reflection and having the willingness to meet these needs.

Relaxation techniques can help lessen the discomfort and duration of the signs and symptoms of stress, such as headaches, anxiety, high blood pressure, trouble falling asleep, hyperventilation, and clenching or grinding your teeth. One simple method is to remove yourself from a stressful situation, block the world out and concentrate on your body. These steps can help you relax:

Sit or lie in a comfortable position and close your eyes. Allow your jaw to drop and your eyelids to be relaxed and heavy, but not tightly closed.

Mentally scan your body. Start with your toes and work slowly up through your legs, buttocks, torso, arms, hands, fingers, neck and head. Focus on each part individually. Where you feel tension, imagine it melting away.

Tighten the muscles in one area of your body. Hold the muscles for a count of five or more before relaxing and moving on to the next area. This is a good method for releasing tension. Tighten the muscles of your face, shoulders, arms, legs and buttocks.

Allow thoughts to flow through your mind, but don't focus on any of them. Many people find using autosuggestion to be a great help. Suggest to yourself that you're relaxed and calm, that your hands are heavy and warm (or cool if you're hot), that your heart is beating calmly, and that you feel perfectly at peace.

Breathe slowly, regularly and deeply during the procedure. Once you're relaxed, imagine you're in a favorite place or in a spot of great beauty and stillness. After five or 10 minutes, rouse yourself from the state gradually.

To maximize the benefits of these stress-reduction techniques, be sure to also get adequate sleep, eliminate caffeine and other stimulants from your diet, and engage in regular exercise. About 30 minutes of moderately intense physical activity most days of the week can improve your psychological well-being.

I have been experiencing bad anxiety lately. I feel like I can't drive or travel because I think I will stop breathing or pass out. I used to be fine. Get on a plane or go on a road trip, no problem. I am now making excuses to why I cannot go places. I am missing appointments with clients. It is getting bad. I have had panic/anxiety for about 18 months. It just recently got worse in the past 5-6 months though. Anyone have this experience? If so, what did you do to stop these problems? Any books or programs that worked for you? Something besides meds? I don't want to miss out on anymore than I feel I already have.

*I am female
*24 years old
*California
*I don't have medical insurance at the moment

Honey I could write a book on panic/anxiety! I started having symptoms in my early 20's and I thought I was going "crazy". One thing I can tell you is the feeling will go away…I know you feel like you will be this way forever but is does get better. I needed medication to help me however and it gave me back my life. I went on to complete nursing school, raise a family and went back to get my Nurse Practitioner License. There are many books on the subject. Meditation and relaxation also helps, guided imagery etc… You have to realize that this monster called anxiety can't hurt you or kill you…it just makes you feel that way. When you feel one coming on try to get to a quite place, take slow deep breaths and consciously slow your breathing down. Keep telling yourself that you are bigger than the panic! If you decide to go to medication I highly recommend Lexapro, it is one of the serotonin re-uptake inhibitors (SSRI's) and it works well for generalized anxiety disorder and has fewer side effects than most. If you don't have insurance you could go with Celexa which is almost identical (I have taken both) but it comes in generic now. Anyway I hope this helps…I know how frightening it can be especially when you don't know what or why this is happening. You are the right age and unfortunately more women than men have this problem…however take comfort in knowing you are not alone…many people have this problem and live full and wonderful lives….like me! I am 48 years old now and have had panic/anxiety for roughly 26 years. I don't let it stop me from doing what I want…I constantly prove it to be weaker than me :-)
Good luck.

This is a special video I wanted to make so that I could share my experience with this adversity, & also help shed some light for those who seek it. I suffered from severe anxiety & panic back in 1995-1996, and to say the least, it was a living nightmare… but now when I look back at it all, it was this particular experience in my life that really helped me grow, allowing me to become the person who I am today. I consider myself very fortunate, & very blessed to have had the ability to overcome this problem (completely) & in turn come out of the situation with tremendous insight, wisdom, & a very clear understanding of it all. It was through this experience that I did some of my most intense writing, as I kept a daily journal trying to make sense of it all so I could heal & regain my life. It was also this writing, along with some very good therapy, that allowed me to fully recover (& beat this thing completely).

As fate would then have it, one day, as I was writing in my journal, I realized (the journal) was actually transforming itself into a book. It was from that point on that I knew I would write this book so that I could help others overcome this adversity as well, & it was also at that point, that I had a very strong feeling along with a very clear vision, that all of this was happening for a reason (to help others). Don’t let this problem interfere with your life one minute longer! Take a step, be strong, & have faith because you CAN beat this thing!

This book has been in print now (4 years) & the feedback & stories I have received (as to how it has made a difference in the life of others) has truly made it all worth while!

- Stay Strong, God Bless, & hope to hear from you as well! :)

I have pretty bad anxiety and panic attacks, even at home. Night time and mornings are absolute terror for me. Is anyone the same or similar?

My attacks surround throwing up. If I have the slightest pain in my stomach for a split second, or if I have too much spit in my mouth or too little spit in my mouth, or if it’s lunch time and I’m not hungry at all.. it sends me into this terrible spiral - no matter where I am.

It starts out with this fluttering feeling in my whole body, then I get very restless and I can’t sit still. Then I start to breathe heavily. If I can’t calm myself down at that point, I’ll get worse fluttering and I’ll start to shake all over, my legs are especially bad. This can continue for what seems like forever and I can’t help thinking that I need to go to the hospital.

Usually the shaking and breathing start to make me feel dizzy at this point and then there’s no natural return - I have to force myself to think that it’s almost over. It’s just an episode and it’s going to go away. I’m not going to die… and it will slowly subside. Afterwards, I feel 100% fine (maybe a little fatigued if I was shaking very much).

The funny thing is that I’m almost 24 and I’ve thrown up 3 times in my entire life… two of those times I was less than 5 years old. It’s worse for me at night and in the mornings because all the times I did throw up were at night so, in my mind, that’s the most likely time I’ll get sick. I don’t eat for hours before I go to bed for fear of that, so I usually go to bed hungry and wake up nausea which also sends me into panic.

It’s terrible and stupid lol but I just can’t help it at all!
